Before there was The SCIENCE WORKS!, there was... MAGIC, etc.

Steve Lechner has been entertaining and educating children for over fourteen years, starting during his time as an undergraduate at Wheelock College. In addition to the science and educational services he offers, he also continues to provide Magic Shows for children and families throughout New England.

Each show begins with a puppetry routine featuring his friend "Bananas" the monkey. Next comes the Magic, which is the main part of the show. Steve uses a unique approach to entertaining where the magician is not always right, and the audience sometimes does more of the tricks than he does! The child-participation in the show makes it a truly interactive and engaging experience for all ages.

The show concludes with a short juggling routine. Each performance lasts from 45-50 minutes, is filled with audience participation, lots of smiles and laughter galore! Performances are geared for children ages 3-12, or for all ages at family events.

Magic Camps/Classes

Magic is a mysterious and intriguing force for children, and a great vehicle for empowering and motivating them to succeed. Steve provides 8-10 week afterschool classes, or week long mini-camps in the summer or over school vacation weeks. These camps/classes introduce children to the wonder and mystery of magic, through tricks that the children can make and perform themselves. Each program concludes on the last day with the students putting on a show for their family and friends. Tricks have included:

  • The Disappearing Crayons
  • The Floating Pencil

Stephen Lechner, owner and operator of The SCIENCE WORKS!, has been educating and entertaining children and teachers throughout New England for over twenty years. Steve has a degree in Early Childhood Education (Wheelock College), a Master of Education (Lesley College), and is the former Education Director of the Children's and Science Discovery Museums in Acton, MA.
